Mississippi Needs More Dyslexia Therapists

Mississippi ranks as one of the lowest literacy rates in the United States. We can help remediate the 20% of students who have dyslexia. The time has come for Certified Academic Language Therapists to be recognized as Dyslexia Therapist.

Dyslexia is a learning disorder that affects the way individuals process language. It is estimated that up to 20% of the population may have dyslexia, and it can have a significant impact on a student's academic performance and self-esteem. While there are various interventions available for dyslexia, Certified Academic Language Therapists (CALTs) are among the most effective.

CALTs are trained professionals who specialize in providing language-based interventions for individuals with dyslexia. They are trained in evidence-based interventions that have been shown to be effective in improving reading and language skills in individuals with dyslexia. However, despite the benefits of CALTs, Mississippi does not recognize them as Dyslexia Therapists.

This lack of recognition is concerning, as it can lead to a shortage of qualified professionals who can provide effective interventions for students with dyslexia. It can also lead to confusion among educators, parents, and students about the best interventions for dyslexia.

One of the primary benefits of CALTs is their ability to provide individualized instruction. Dyslexia is a complex disorder, and each individual may have unique strengths and challenges. CALTs are trained to identify these individual differences and develop interventions that are tailored to each student's specific needs. This can lead to significant improvements in reading and language skills, as well as increased confidence and self-esteem.

Another benefit of CALTs is their ability to work with students of all ages. Dyslexia is a lifelong condition, and individuals with dyslexia may struggle with reading and language skills throughout their academic and professional careers. CALTs are trained to work with students of all ages, from young children to adults, and can provide interventions that are appropriate for each age group.

It is important for Mississippi to recognize CALTs as Dyslexia Therapists to ensure that students with dyslexia have access to the most effective interventions. This recognition would also ensure that educators, parents, and students have a clear understanding of the qualifications of professionals who provide interventions for dyslexia.

Certified Academic Language Therapists are highly trained professionals who can provide effective interventions for students with dyslexia. Mississippi should recognize CALTs as Dyslexia Therapists to ensure that students have access to the best possible interventions for dyslexia. Educators, parents, and students should also be aware of the benefits of CALTs and advocate for their recognition in Mississippi.
